the floors
Stretched, sagging carpet looks tacky. It can also cause nasty falls. Carpets stretch if there’s an imbalance in your home’s blocking. People also carelessly scoot furniture across the rug. Cheap carpeting materials buckle rather soon.
Begin to correct this unsightly hazard by verifying the levelness of your floor. Make any adjustments that are needed, or have them done.
Clear the offending room of furnishings. Determine in which direction you need to pull the carpet. Sags that run lengthwise, you adjust at the side walls. Ripples across the width, you correct at the ends or at the carpet trim bar. Some bunching takes restretching in both directions.
Pull sag out of the carpet at the edges. You may need to trim excess carpet and/or padding with a utility knife before it can all lie flat. Once it does lay smooth, catch it with carpet tacks. Install a carpet trim bar, and perhaps mouldings.
Carpeting often sags at the seam in double-wide homes. Settling can cause this sag. So can improper setup. Use a level to check the stance of both sections (page 20). You probably will need qualified technicians to align the two units correctly. If reblocking does not remedy this carpet problem, pull out the sag at the center seam oil the carpet. Cut off any excess. Secure the carpet to the floor v.-:
carpet adhesive or tape. You can also fasten it or make the edge neater with a trim bar.
